A transform boundary is a fault along a plate boundary where the motion between tectonic plates is predominantly horizontal. Unlike other boundaries, it ends abruptly where it connects to another type of plate boundary, such as another transform fault, a spreading ridge, or a subduction zone. These boundaries are often associated with intense seismic activity due to the friction and pressure that builds up as the plates slide past each other.
